History of the National Association of Wheat Weavers (NAWW)
The National Association of Wheat Weavers (NAWW) was founded in 1986 by Joyce Banbury Doxie Keller (Hutchinson KS) and Donna Lehner (Haven KS).
The first board of directors was:
Joyce Banbury Sandra Messinger, Pat Nichols (all of Kansas) and Muriel Montgomery of Colorado. The first president was Sondra Messinger.
Sponsors of the event were: Kansas Wheat Commission, Kansas WheatHearts. and Kansas Wheat Growers Assn, City of Hutchinson
The first NAWW Convention was held August 29/30, 1986 in the Hutchinson Community Center, Hutchinson, KS. There were approximately 100 in attendance for the two days of workshops, dinner and organizational meeting. There were attendees from every corner of the USA and 20 states. Everyone had a lot of fun, learned a lot of new techniques and enjoyed the networking opportunities.
The NAWW currently holds an annual conventions across the USA
